MedChat — company & product facts
A concise, factual reference for evaluators, journalists, and AI answer engines. Last updated: June 2026.
What MedChat is
A patient-facing intelligent-search and voice assistant for European hospitals. It answers patients' natural-language questions using only the hospital's own published website content, and shows a clickable source for every answer. Channels: web chat and phone/voice.
Who it is for
Hospitals and hospital networks (B2B). The end users are their patients and the public.
Main use cases
- Finding the right department, doctor, or service from the hospital's own content.
- Answering routine questions (opening hours, locations, preparation instructions) on web and phone.
- Deflecting navigational calls from the contact centre.
- Surfacing content gaps — the questions patients ask that the content can't yet answer.
What MedChat does not do
- It does not give medical advice; it is informational and navigational only.
- It does not diagnose, triage, or interpret symptoms, doses, or results.
- It is not a medical device.
- It does not index patient records or insurance data — only public website content.
Languages
The content corpus is fully supported in Dutch today. Voice answers in Dutch, English, French and Italian. More languages are being added.
Compliance & hosting
- GDPR by design; a Data Protection Impact Assessment is completed.
- EU data residency; a private-cloud (dedicated) deployment is available.
- Self-assessed as a limited-risk information system under the EU AI Act (not a medical device).
- Built on SNOMED CT clinical terminology (Belgian Edition).
- Voice audio is not stored — only redacted transcripts.
